In Nov 2008, GPS Defense asked Evin Galbraith of DPMS Military & Law Enforcement Division to build a couple specialized prototype rifles for a Gov't Agency. The rifle was to be a common looking size and configuration so as not to stand out or draw attention as a "sniper rifle" especially when being used overseas in PSD and other specialized assignments.
The sniper rifle was to be capable of 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards, hit silhouettes to 900 yards, yet deliver semi-auto firepower in a heavy caliber if needed.
DPMS manufactured these prototypes and they were shot alongside a piston driven competitor for comparison. After four days of shooting both rifles in our Nov 2008 sniper course, both shooters independently chose the DPMS.

Because of the election, custom rifles from any of the major manufacturers were non-existent, so once again we undertook the project ourselves. The first batch of our GPS Defense 308 semi-auto will be done before the end of December 2009.
Today we test fired two of the GPS/DPMS rifles. The first groups from each rifle fired three rounds touching at 100 yards with factory 175 grain ammunition.
